Looks like something you'd have to spend quite a bit of time with to learn the details and form a good impression. Maybe someone else more familiar with the program can add something. There seems to be a ferry option to fly wherever you want, but I'm not sure about that. Also I hope to find some nice long routes, or it wouldn't be too much use to me. If it starts acting weird with my Quality Wings and CS 757s, my CS 767, my Ariane 737-800 it would be a deal-breaker, since that's pretty much all I fly currently. (Airline name and livery don't matter.)So I'll be playing around with the demo some more, but first impressions were highly favorable. Apparently, at the easiest setting you can fly whatever you want. There are a lot of options as to how hard you want to make it.
There is an option, apparently, to handle fuel and loading yourself.Documentation looks lengthy but readable, and the readme gives a quickstart gouge.You don't have to "work your way up" to bigger airplanes, and you don't have to manage a company as well as fly, which is something I didn't really enjoy in some others I have tried. It did distribute the fuel equally among the wing tanks and center, though, or at least I think it did. There are generic models, and when I used the Quality Wings 757 it recognized it as a 757 and seemed to work okay. An alternate is figured for you, useful weather information is provided, including the average winds aloft for flight planning!It looks like it has all the stuff I like in about three other programs without the stuff I don't need or use.My concern would be that I don't fly default a/c and am not smart enough to configure the payware I use. Some require you to report your position every 30 minutes, for example. Airlines range from pretty laid back like Landmark, to sticklers. Dispatch figures the time window you get, including estimated time on the ground, the number of passengers and even the fuel you need. You sign up for an airline, then choose from a number of available flights.
The ACARS reminds me of Flight Keeper, but works differently.
(I am addicted to setting the altimeter using the keyboard, though.)FSCaptain is more about keeping your airline happy than keeping the "screaming cargo" happy, although that plays a part. I realize I could customize it, but I'm lazy. There is a lot to like about the program, but I find I don't use much of it. My philosophy is to talk about what I like, rather than what I don't like in forums, but FS Passengers is pretty light-hearted and the stewardess who comes in and sexually harrasses the captain all the time is a little embarrassing in front of the wife. I hope this thread isn't too stale to resurrect, but I've played with FSCaptain now and have a couple of ideas.It reminds me of a cross between Flight Keeper, Air Hauler and FS Passengers.
